Fire Safety Advisor - Webinar

Description

The Fire Safety Advisor(FSA) course teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to assume the role and responsibilities of a Fire Safety Adviser in accordance with the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008(BFSR 2008). This course also equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to advise on appropriate emergency planning, making them familiar with all aspects of building fire safety.

Purpose

The FSA course has been developed to cover a broad range of emergencies in facilities as considered in AS3745 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities) and AS4083 (Planning For Emergencies in Health Facilities) and applies to employees with limited or no fire safety experience and who want to fulfill the role of a Fire Safety Adviser. A Fire Safety Adviser is required to:-

  • be familiar with all aspects of building fire safety
  • provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate emergency planning has taken place
  • provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate instruction is carried out at the prescribed times and intervals.

Duration

  • Pre-course Learning (Self-Directed) – This is identified in the application process for existing skills and knowledge by the Learner and will be directed to those students who do not possess prior skills in this skill set field. Students who fall into this area will have additional time for Pre-Course learning added to the delivery of the Fire Safety Advisor Skillset. (Approximately 10 hours)
  • Webinar face-to-face learning – delivery (18 hours) + (3 hours Webinar assessments + 3 hours post course assessments).  Allowance for additional time for video recording is part of the Webinar course (up to 3 hours).  This allows for the course to be provided in 24 hours plus additional time of up to 3 hours for external assessments.
  • All students will have access to post support and learning resources following the course for 12 months. (approximately 10 hours)
  • Assessments will take approximately an additional 6 hours (During Course and Post-course)

Elective Units

  • PUAFER001 – Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
  • PUAFER002 – Ensure facility emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented
  • PUAFER003 – Manage and monitor facility emergency procedures, equipment and other resources
  • PUAFER004 – Respond to facility emergencies
  • PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER006 – Lead an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER007 – Manage an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

Entry requirements

No student will be permitted to undertake the course if they are under the influence of alcohol, an illegal/illicit substance, or impaired by a prescribed medication and other impairments such as fatigue, mental health issue, or stress.

Assessment requirement

Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge. Simulated assessment environments will include simulated real-life working environments where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.

Delivery mode

Webinar face-to-face learning will be performed via the internet using Zoom software. The sessions will be led by an experienced trainer encompassing the same principles as a face-to-face delivery with role-play video-based practical assessments recorded in real-time. The course will be delivered using a blended delivery approach and will consist of:

  • Self-directed learning before attending the face-to-face sessions
  • Webinar online instructions
  • Assessments
  • Some post course work to be undertaken in your workplace

As part of the self-directed learning before attending the Fire Safety Advisor Course, a learner will receive instructions with relevant pre-course reading at least 2 days prior to delivery of the course.

Materials or equipment required

We will provide all necessary equipment and materials to undertake this unit of competency. These will be packed and posted to you along with the required course material. As this is a webinar course, you will require access to a computer/laptop with good internet access, a webcam, and a microphone. If you require a Webcam, let a team member know beforehand so a loan unit can be arranged for you.

The following equipment will be provided:-

  • Access to a fire extinguisher for fire simulation
  • Equipment for spill kit simulation
  • Required PPE’s and fire extinguihser anti-tamper seals
  • Course manual & assessment manual

Career pathways

The Fire Safety Adviser is a requirement in all High Occupancy Buildings in QLD as defined in the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulations 2008. A Fire Safety Adviser is a person who holds an approved building fire safety qualification, issued within the last three years.

Additional information

The Fire Safety Adviser accreditation is valid for a period of 3 years after which a refresher training similar to this is required.
