Lead an emergency control organisation (Webinar)

Description

Provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to lead an emergency control organisation (ECO) and to work within the command, control, and coordination structure of an ECO. The Chief Warden’s priority is the safety of facility occupants and visitors during an emergency and ensuring that ECO members work as a team to facilitate pre-emergency, emergency, and post-emergency actions as required.

Purpose

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to make decisions about the safety of occupants during a facility emergency and to give instructions on the priority order for responding to an emergency incident. It includes leading the preparation of facility emergency response procedures; commanding, controlling, and coordinating facility emergency response procedures and responses, and concluding the facility emergency incident. Individuals who undertake this work may also act as the primary liaison with emergency services after their arrival.

This course is delivered over 3 hours, including assessment.

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an Emergency Control Organisation as a prerequisite and must also be over eighteen(18) years of age and have the ability to:

  • work independently
  • access and interpret information relevant to a range of typical emergencies that may occur in the facility or workplace
  • access and apply hazard controls
  • be able to communicate clearly in English (or Learning Needs support Services Referral provided)
  • be able to correctly interpret emergency procedure plans, work permits, and work procedures when dealing with an emergency or potential hazard

No student will be permitted to undertake the course if they are under the influence of alcohol, an illegal/illicit substance, or impaired by a prescribed medication and other impairments such as fatigue, mental health issue, or stress.

Assessment requirement

Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge. Simulated assessment environments will include simulated real-life working environments where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.

Delivery mode

Webinar face-to-face learning will be performed via the internet using Zoom software. The sessions will be led by an experienced trainer encompassing the same principles as a face-to-face delivery with role-play video-based practical assessments recorded in real-time. The course will be delivered using a blended delivery approach and will consist of:

  • Webinar online instructions
  • Role-play video-based practical assessments
  • Theory assessments

Materials or equipment required

We will provide all necessary equipment and materials to undertake this unit of competency. These will be packed and posted to you along with the required course material. As this is a webinar course, you will require access to a computer/laptop with good internet access, a webcam, and a microphone. If you require a Webcam, let a team member know beforehand so a loan unit can be arranged for you.

Additional information

Your certificate does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every year.
