Fire Safety Advisor Refresher - Classroom

Description

Fire Safety Adviser (FSA) re-certification course will refresh participants with the required skills to continue in their role as a Fire Safety Adviser. Re-certification training is required to be undertaken by all FSA’s every 3 years. If the date of the initial FSA course is outside 3 years, then a full FSA course is required.

Purpose

This course is designed to re-certify a Fire Safety Adviser in Queensland as required by the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008. This refresher training reassesses the eight units of competency within the original course to ensure that an FSA is abreast of current legislation changes and is able to:-

  • provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate emergency planning has taken place
  • provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate instruction is carried out at the prescribed times and intervals.

Duration

1 day refresher with some Pre & Post Course work. All students will have access to post support and learning resources following the course for 12 months. (approximately 10 hours)

  • Pre-course Learning (Self Directed) – Approximately 10 hours
  • 1 day Supervised face-to-face learning – Classroom delivery (4 hours) + (4 hours Assessment)
  • Post course work – Approximately 4 hours

Units of competency

Elective Units

  • PUAFER001 – Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
  • PUAFER002 – Ensure facility emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented
  • PUAFER003 – Manage and monitor facility emergency procedures, equipment and other resources
  • PUAFER004 – Respond to facility emergencies
  • PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER006 – Lead an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER007 – Manage an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this unit stipulated in the Training Packages however any participant must be over eighteen(18) years of age and have the ability to:

  • work independently
  • access and interpret information relevant to a range of typical emergencies that may occur in the facility/workplace or a high rise building
  • access and apply hazard controls
  • be able to communicate clearly in English (or Learning Needs support Services Referral provided)
  • be able to correctly interpret emergency procedure plans, work permits, and work procedures when dealing with an emergency or potential hazard

No student will be permitted to undertake the course if they are under the influence of alcohol, an illegal/illicit substance, or impaired by a prescribed medication and other impairments such as fatigue, mental health issue, or stress

Assessment requirement

Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge. Simulated assessment environments will include simulated real-life working environments where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.

Delivery mode

The Training Course will be delivered using a blended delivery approach and will consist of:

  • Traditional face-to-face classroom theory instruction including guided practice with an experienced trainer
  • Assessments
  • Some post course work to be undertaken in your workplace

Materials or equipment required

We will provide all relevant training equipment and materials to undertake these units of competency.

Career pathways

The Fire Safety Adviser is a requirement in all High Occupancy Buildings in QLD as defined in the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulations 2008. A Fire Safety Adviser is a person who holds an approved building fire safety qualification, issued within the last three years.

Additional information

The Fire Safety Adviser refresher accreditation is valid for a period of 3 years after which another refresher training similar to this is required.
